On-site testing forall three levels of FCC amateur radio operator licenses available

We always offer exams for all three currently available Ham Radio license classes, Technician Class, General Class and Amateur Extra Class. There are grandfathred license classes that you can renew indefinatelyand you can upgrade to a higher currently available class but you can no longer test for them and no NEW licenses will be granted in those classes.

We no longer administer paper-and-pencil exams unless there is no way of doing it electronically. We have never encountered a situation where we cannot administer your exam(s) due to handicap. We can even accommodate blind applicants and those who can't read, we'll assign a VE to read the exam to you and submit your answer for you . Because we adminster the exams using specially configured and locked down tablets, you will need to be registered to take an exam. You do this totally free at hamstudy.org. Click the button below and it will take you to the list of the next few exams we have scheduled. Pre-registration also verifies your Email address and eligibility to take an exam. In the case where you have passed an exam and your license has not granted yet, We STRONGLY suggest you notify us so we can advise the VEC to hold your application until the license grants. You cannot have two applications pending in the same service, or it seriously slows down the grant process becaue it removes all the automation from the process and forces a live person to review and hand-key the information. Thsi can add up to a month to the processing time.

Even though most of our volunteer examiners are accredited with multiple volunteer examiner coordinators, we choose to exclusively use W5YI-VEC. They are the only full service VEC and they are one of the fastest VECs at processing your application through the FCC Licensing Branch.

Please bring the following to your exam session. Failure to provide us with some of these items could prohibit us from administering your exam:

1. Government issued photo ID. (drivers license, passport, school ID)

2. Exam fee(currently $14.00in cash since we process everything online, we have no way of sending in checks) (New licenses will pay a $35.00 application fee directly to FCC online) after the exam.

If you do no pre-register, on a time-available basis, we will register you AT the session but it takes about a half hour for us to register you, whereas if you register yourself, it will take about three minutes!

If you are upgrading an existing license and you did not pre-register, we will need to register you AND verify you are eligible to take the exam so you will need to also bring:

1. a copy of your existing license (can be a reference copy). or if your license has not granted yet,

2. a copy of your non-expired CSCE

3. a valid Email address (FCC does all of its routine communication with you via Email and we need a way to contact you if something unforeseen happens)

Despite what hamstudy and Examtools specify, you do NOT need to bring your pin, we have that already in our exam admin panel.

We occasionally go into the field to administer exams for clubs, special events, and groups who teach classes, among others. These still must be schedule with hamstudy.org and applications still must be registered but we will take care of all the session registration if we can work out a schedule. Our examiners are all hams and offer their time freely as a way to give back for all we've gotten out of Ham Radio. We are required by FCC Part 97 to have three examiners in attendance to hold a valid session and it is sometimes difficult to get three VEs who are willing to travel to these "Special exam sessions" but we will do our best to accommodate the group.
